Chemical Information
FooDB Name6,8-Dihydroxypurine
Description6,8-Dihydroxypurine, also known as 6,8-purinediol or 8-oxohypoxanthine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hypoxanthines. Hypoxanthines are compounds containing the purine derivative 1H-purin-6(9H)-one. Purine is a bicyclic aromatic compound made up of a pyrimidine ring fused to an imidazole ring. 6,8-Dihydroxypurine has been detected, but not quantified in, a few different foods, such as anatidaes (Anatidae), chickens (Gallus gallus), and domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domestica). This could make 6,8-dihydroxypurine a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on 6,8-Dihydroxypurine.
