Phenylalanine and derivatives are compounds containing phenylalanine or a derivative thereof resulting from reaction of phenylalanine at the amino group or the carboxy group, or from the replacement of any hydrogen of glycine by a heteroatom. Thyroxine is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). Thyroxine exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans. In humans, thyroxine is involved in thyroid hormone synthesis.
