Chemical Information
FooDB Name2-Pentylfuran
Description2-Pentylfuran, also known as fema 3317 or furane, 2-pentyl, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as heteroaromatic compounds. Heteroaromatic compounds are compounds containing an aromatic ring where a carbon atom is linked to an hetero atom. 2-Pentylfuran is a butter and greenbean tasting compound. 2-Pentylfuran is found, on average, in the highest concentration within orange mints (Mentha aquatica). This could make 2-pentylfuran a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. 2-Pentylfuran, with regard to humans, has been found to be associated with several diseases such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, ulcerative colitis, and crohn's disease; 2-pentylfuran has also been linked to the inborn metabolic disorder celiac disease. Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on 2-Pentylfuran.
