Chemical Information
FooDB Nametrans-3'-hydroxycotinine
DescriptionTrans-3'-hydroxycotinine, also known as 1-methyl-3-hydroxy-5-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrrolidinone, is a member of the class of compounds known as pyrrolidinylpyridines. Pyrrolidinylpyridines are compounds containing a pyrrolidinylpyridine ring system, which consists of a pyrrolidine ring linked to a pyridine ring. Trans-3'-hydroxycotinine is soluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). Trans-3'-hydroxycotinine can be found in a number of food items such as annual wild rice, macadamia nut, corn salad, and radish, which makes trans-3'-hydroxycotinine a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
